FAQs

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page.

Here you will find answers to some of the questions our climbers and customers ask us most frequently. If you’re still unsure about anything, feel free to ask a member of staff when you’re in the centre or get in touch.

What is Bouldering?2021-01-14T17:46:17+00:00

Bouldering is a form of climbing which takes place on indoor walls that typically measure less than 15 feet (4.5 m) from ground to top. It is a mix of gymnastics, parkour and problem solving that tests both your physical body and mind. Unlike top rope climbing and lead climbing, no ropes are used to protect or aid the climber. Instead safety matting is laid underneath all climbing areas which help decrease the chance of injury from any fall of height.

Do I need to bring my own shoes and chalk-bag?2022-06-07T08:46:29+01:00

No, you can hire them on site for a small fee. If you have booked an instructed lesson, shoes and chalk hire are included in the price.

I’ve climbed before, but could do with a refresher – can you help?2022-06-07T08:44:22+01:00

Yes. We have a wide range of lessons available for climbers of all experience.

If you are an Adult and want a refresher as you’ve only climbed a little bit before – visit our Adult Induction page to book a session.

If you are more experienced, and maybe returning from a break in your climbing, then we run plenty of Stronghold Social sessions that will help you improve your climbing skills.

I’m an experienced climber, can I just come and climb?2022-06-08T15:47:39+01:00

Yes. After registering, there is a range of access from single-entry to annual memberships.

Can I drop my kids off and collect them later?2022-07-28T13:28:16+01:00

Only children who are booked onto one of our kids sessions, or those who have passed our junior assessment, can be left alone at the centre. At all other times, children must be supervised by an adult.

You can find out more about our sessions by visiting our Kids page here>>

I’m not a climber, do you have anything else to do?2022-06-07T08:39:53+01:00

We do (are you sure we can’t tempt you with bouldering?). We have a gym area as well as a well stocked café. There are plenty of chill-out and viewing areas around the centre, so why not relax with a drink and get a feel for what we’re about, you’ll be climbing the walls in no time!

I’m an experienced climber, can I teach my friends or kids who are beginners?2023-09-05T23:10:51+01:00

On your visit to Stronghold Climbing Centre, you will be asked to fill in a Supervisor Assessment, which will be checked by a member of our team. For guidance on supervision ratios, please refer to our Under 18’s Supervision Policy here

Do I need to book or can I just come in?2022-07-28T13:27:25+01:00

As an Adult you can just come in and talk to our friendly staff who will be able to get you climbing on the day. Please visit our First Visit page to read more about our registration process and how long it will take.

If you are looking to bring kids for the first time and you are not an experienced climber, please be aware that you will not be able to climb on the day. The process to be an ‘Adult Supervisor’ for children is on our Kids page.
